Police had taped off part of the centre of Helston in the early hours of this morning (16th) following an incident.

Taken by a local shop owner, the tape could be seen along Coinagehall Street, with reports of a forensic photographer present.

The shop owner told Nub News:

"We live near the scene and managed to sleep through, we didn't know anything had happened until I came down at 6:30am.

"The delivery drivers said there had been fighting in the town. We could see a police photographer out there."

Shortly after, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police added:

"We attended a report of a male who had been assaulted in Coinagehall Street, Helston. At first injuries were thought to be serious and therefore the scene was preserved while we investigated.

"This morning it transpired that the injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing and the scene has been released.

"We continue to investigate and any witnesses are welcome to contact us on 101, incident number 123, October 16th 2021."

No further details were given into the incident. The road has been reopened.
