The team at Penrose National Trust has fired a warning over the use of illegal fish traps.

Recently the team has been alerted to a number of the traps on the north side of Loe Pool - which have now been removed.

They are used to trap eels, crayfish, water voles, otters and coarse fish but are a significant risk to wildlife and fish.

A spokesperson for the Penrose Rangers said:

"Worryingly these were the same design as the one which accidentally trapped and drowned an Otter in August 2018.

"All types of rod or net fishing at Loe Pool are prohibited, although it's a challenge for us to regularly monitor the whole pool for an activity like this incident.

"If you are out and about at Penrose and do see anyone setting nets, fishing from the shore or acting suspiciously by the water please feel free to give us a call on 01326 554082."

Due to a family alerting the team, they were able to free the fish and eels that had been trapped.
