At the end of last week, Helston gained a new shop that is hoping to "inspire and engage with its local community and businesses" to do something good for the planet.

Helstoner Matthew Nott is the owner and creator of One Blue Eye where he collects, processes, and recycles plastic using a shredder and injection moulder to turn the plastic into valuable and useful objects.

After getting in touch with Matt he began to explain how he came up with the idea for the unique business that he hopes can inspire the community, he said: "Initially I was looking at getting out of the construction/maintenance industry having been in it for 20 years, I signed up for an Outset Cornwall start-up course where we explored ideas for starting a side-line business.

"I have always been environmentally conscious and in recent years have been involved in both mental health and well-being in the workplace, a sustainability workshop on the course was the lightbulb moment for me. This was where I started exploring the possibilities of recycling and the link good environmental health can have with good mental health."

Matt encourages people to come for a chat and share their ideas.

It was clear Matt was passionate about the environment, I asked what difference he feels One Blue Eye and other shops can make on such a big issue, he said: "We as businesses have a responsibility to ensure what we do and how we do it has as little impact on the planet and communities as possible, all businesses can educate their clients and customers to be aware of their responsibilities as end users."

"This doesn't ever have to be done in a preachy way but in a way that gets the point across that, we all have an opportunity to do the right thing and make, sell, shop, and consume responsibly," Matt added.

Originally Matt wasn't planning to make One Blue Eye a shop but now he can see the real potential the place has, Matt said: "I was having a tattoo next door (GoGo Electric Tattoo)when we started talking about my idea, Immediately Jed and Perdita Mentioned that no4 was going to be available.

"The opportunity to engage people in what I was doing was there, primarily this is a workshop for me and the retail is secondary but now I am going to be offering workshops and events where everyone can come and actually get involved in recycling their own waste and hopefully take away a bit of enthusiasm to pass the word on to realise the value in plastic waste."

Grand opening for One Blue Eye.

You can find One Blue Eye at no4 on Horse and Jockey Lane but for more information or to get in touch you can find Matt and the shop here: One Blue Eye | Facebook.
