No need for Environmental Assessment on Helston retail development, screening opinion given by council
In the latest update from the proposed retail park at Hospital Cross, a screening opinion decision has stated there will be no need for an Environmental Impact Assessment.
An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a process of evaluating the likely environmental impacts of a proposed project or development.
Recently, consultation results for the development of a retail park on the site came out as 228 comments in support, 131 comments of objection and 35 impartial comments or observations.
In a decision from Cornwall Council's planning department released today (25th), it was deemed that the proposal would not have such significant impacts on the environment so as to require the submission of a full Environmental Statement.
A concluding statement read:
"It is not located within a sensitive area. Consideration has been given to the visual impact, the impact on surrounding roads, neighbours, ecology, hydrology and landscape.
"A good design will be required to reflect adjacent development. It is therefore considered that the proposed development as it stands would not result in complex and significant effects on the environment which would require a full Environmental Statement
to be submitted." Click here to see the plans.Carry on the conversation on our Twitter and Facebook pages. [.B]
