New holiday lets near Wendron will support the local economy

Plans to turn redundant rural buildings into holiday have taken a step forward - after planning permission was given.

The application submitted by Matt Robinson Architecture on behalf of Chloe and Chris Wild, sees the conversion of barns at Manderley Farm near Wendron to form a dwelling for the owners and two-holiday lets.

The proposal would provide for a new dwelling for the applicants, so they can continue to live at the site and work in the local community, with two smaller holiday lets to provide additional income.

All units would result in the reuse of redundant rural buildings and result in a significant enhancement to the rural setting.

One unit named the "Shippon" will be converted into a one-bedroom holiday let. Another one called "The Parlour" will be re-roofed and repaired to form a three-bed holiday let. These will be alongside "The Piggery" which will be a three-bed permanent dwelling.

The application reads:

"The existing complex of barns are now redundant and do not form part of a working farm. The internal features retained within the blockwork buildings demonstrate the past agricultural use.

"The proposals would make the best use of the two blockwork buildings to provide a dwelling and smaller holiday let, with the stone barn being reinstated to form an additional holiday let. A total of three residential units are proposed, each would be detached.

"The new dwelling will allow the applicants to continue to live at the site and work in the local area, while the two-holiday lets will also provide an additional income and support the local economy."

Planning permission was granted this week, with Cornwall Council's planning officer Martin Jose, added:

"On balance, it is considered that the proposal is acceptable, subject to conditions. All other matters raised have been taken into account, including the planning history and the comments of the Parish Council, but none is of such significance as to outweigh the considerations that have led to the conclusion. The application is recommended for approval."
