On Thursday evening (24th) Jackie, aged 81, had her handbag stolen from her trolley and the community rallied together to support her.

The bag contained £300 cash, her car repair money, her bank card, which the thieves then used to take another £450.

The bank would not reimburse the money.

With 'Project Lovely Jackie' set up by Leigh Yates from The Sparkle Foundation nearly £600 has been raised to help Jackie.

In an update posted on social media Carla Dale added:

"The Sparkle Academy was able to provide Jackie with £300 and a beautiful bunch of flowers this act of kindness has been completely overwhelming and has restored Jackie's faith in humanity again. She has been very shaken by what happened but has found comfort in all your support! So again thank you so so much."

The target was initially set at £450 to cover what the thieves stole but has since exceeded that to nearly £600.

Comments of support poured in with one resident saying:

"Aww that's nice she was able to retrieve some money back, what a horrible thing to have happen. Hopefully, the police will get a good result once they obtain the CCTV footage from Tesco and from the cashpoint and the judge won't be too lenient and gives a suitable punishment."

A second comment read:

"This is so sad to hear but also restores your faith in human nature that people are rallying round to help. Well done Leigh Yates!"

A third read:

"What a lovely gesture! Hope this lady feels stronger soon."
