9-year-old Freddie Gwilliams from Helston has a complex neurodevelopment syndrome so is unable to talk or walk, but he is currently taking on the 2.6 challenge by doing 26 laps of his garden raising money for Children's Hospice South West.

You can follow his progress here.

A hospice they say is very "very close" to their hearts as Freddie has been visiting Little Harbour Children's Hospice, Saint Austell for a few years.

The fundraiser had an initial target of £500, but has now hit over £1400 and rising.

Freddie completed his sixth lap of the garden yesterday (27th) and his mum Hayley is very happy with the support shown for him.

Hayley Gwilliams, told Nub News:

"He hasn't been very well so to get him back on his feet is a bit of a struggle but we know to get him upright and walking is the best thing he can do with his tummy problems at the minute, so we are going slow with him and he does however many he feels he can do.

"We will just be carrying on splitting it up doing half and half, two in the morning two in the afternoon to see how he goes.

"He is struggling with his health at the minute, but he loves walking and if he was able to walk he would be the happiest boy because he loves going in his walking frame and going around the garden.

"I think just being upright and seeing the world at a different level than just the floor is nice for him, he touches the trees and the leaves he loves it."

Freddie has done sponsored walks for the last two years for charity, every year the family do one for a different charity, although this year it has been very difficult because of Coronavirus, Freddie had to be shielded because he is a vulnerable child. Hayley added:

"When we saw the 2.6 challenge being shared around Facebook we thought we could combine his fundraiser for that and do it for Children's Hospice South West because he goes there a lot and we saw they needed funding at the minute so we thought it would be a good thing to do for them.

"We didn't want to put to much pressure on raising money because we know a lot of people are struggling without work and money is difficult for a lot of people, so we kept the target low at £500 and to get up to where he is now he has done really well and people are getting behind him which is lovely."
