Improvements proposed for Helston Rugby Club

Plans have been lodged for improvements to Helston Rugby Club.

If accepted, the improvements would see permanent access to the first-floor area, create a balcony overlooking the pitch and provide an alternative means of escape from the first floor.

The new access to the first floor is to the rear of the building and facing the pitch. Its overall height has been limited to reduce its visibility from Clodgey Lane.

Views of the fire escape stair to the south side of the Clubhouse are restricted and partly hidden by building and mature trees/planting along the site boundary.

It is proposed that the new extension is clad in fibre cement boarding, providing a contrast to the existing building, which is a mixture of render and natural stonework.

It is also proposed that the west elevation, facing the pitch, will be blue and white stripes to match the clubs' colours, and include the clubs' logo and name.

The balcony will be limited in size and occupancy while providing access to the escape stairs in an emergency. It is proposed that the around the balcony will be stainless steel, with glass infill panels.

The application concludes:

"Helston Rugby Club seeks to improve its facilities utilising the large room in the currently inaccessible roof space. A new rear extension provides internal access to the first-floor function room for all, while the balcony offers views of the pitch and egress via the escape stair in case of an emergency.

"The extension is to the rear of the property, with only the ridge visible from Clodgey Lane. The fire escape stair is shielded from view by both the Clubhouse and mature planting along the site boundary.

"The additional space enables Helston Rugby Club, with the support of its members, to continue to provide training sessions and other activities too, and for the benefit of, the local community."
