HM Coastguard Cornwall has sent out a warning to Helston residents ahead of pubs reopening on Saturday 4th July.

A new campaign, named 'Don't Drink and Drown', has been created to make residents aware of the dangers of mixing alcohol and water.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard Cornwall said:

"As we gear up to pubs opening this weekend, we want to get our #DontDrinkAndDrown message out around the UK to keep the public safe around water after consuming alcohol."

The coastguard has released some information to consider when drinking at the weekend:

* Alcohol and water don't mix – your judgement is impaired and you could make life-threatening decisions

  • Cold water kills – the average temperature of UK water is a cold 11 degrees, about the same as a PINT of beer
  • If you fall into the water, float to live
  • Look after your friends, make sure they get home safe and avoid routes home around water

Remember if you get into difficulties or see someone else in trouble then call #999 and ask for the Coastguard.
