It was announced earlier this month that the coronation of King Charles would be held on Saturday the 6th of May which would fall on the same date as the 2023 Flora Day.

Flora day is traditionally celebrated on the 8th of may except if it falls on a Sunday or Monday which is historically known as market day. The upcoming Flora Day would be a Monday which means the event is moved to the previous Saturday being the 6th of May.

Many took to social media to highlight the fact that these events would clash, Martine Knight posted on the Helston Facebook page "So the coronation is going to be on Saturday, May 6th - clearly the King didn't liaise with Helston Flora Day Association!"

The Association has now announced today a new date to make sure the special day can still go ahead they released a statement on social media, 'It is with careful consideration with all relevant safety partners and to avoid clashing with the coronation of King Charles, we announce Flora Day 2023 will take place on Friday 5th May. We look forward to welcoming you to Helston for what will be a joyous celebration weekend.

There was a mixed reaction but the majority of reactions to the statement were positive and expecting the tough decision made, Suzanne Audrey commented: "Clearly you will never please everyone but thank you to our volunteers who have come to a prompt decision, Looking forwards to May."
