Helston woman's artwork included in Fishermen's Mission calendar
A Helston woman's artwork has made it into the Fishermen's Mission calendar.
Gloria Butterworth, originally from Helston, has been picked to feature in August in the 2022 calendar.
The charity recently launched the new calendar entitled "when the boat comes in - British fishing lives through the year".
The Fishermen's Mission held a competition earlier this year which resulted in supporters old and new submitting entries of either artwork or a fish recipe based on a season of the year.
100's of entries poured in and after weeks of decision making,
the winners and runners-up have been selected to make up the calendar. Speaking to Nub News Gloria said she was thrilled when she heard the news. Gloria is self-taught in painting but had spent a lot of time working in Wendron. The fish in the painting is cut out with wood and all the beach items are sourced and handpicked from Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth. Gloria continued: "As a Helston resident with the shop based in Helston, I am thrilled. To be featured alongside Caroline Quentin as well I am really chuffed. We lose a lot of fishermen and you think if you are doing something to support them and their families it is brilliant. I hope the calendar does really well." The calendars are available to buy at the Padstow Bookseller, The Great Cornish Food Store in Truro, and The Edge of the World Bookshop in Penzance, and the Fishermen's Mission Charity Shop in Helston, see social media for other venues.
