A yellow weather warning has been issued as thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the county, starting this afternoon.

The Met Office has said a "few places" may see thunderstorms causing flooding and disruption.

There have already been problems this morning around Truro with reports of problems at Perranaworthal and Carnon Downs.

The Kernow Weather Team put out a warning on social media saying:

"Double Yellow weather warning sign for thunderstorms for today at 13:30 until tomorrow (Wednesday) 21:00.

"Met Office has issued this warning for the County. So please be aware and take the precautions necessary."

What to expect

  • Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
  • Some communities might become cut off if roads flood.
  • Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
