Helston residents have been warned over flooding to low lying land and roads after heavy overnight rainfall.

The flood alert is now in force, persistent overnight rain has caused river levels to rise, and they are expected to remain high throughout the day.

Further rainfall is forecast to continue throughout today. From early evening, the rain will ease, becoming showery into Sunday. Some of this rain could be heavy, especially over high ground where very large totals remain possible.

A spokesperson for the Gov.uk flood information service said:

"This all may result in flooding to low lying land and roads close to rivers. However, flooding to properties is not currently expected. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions."
