Helston Waste and Recycling: Centres to trial later opening hours
Cornwall's Household Waste and Recycling Centres will be open for longer one day a week through spring and early summer, it has been announced today - including Helston's.
Residents will be able to visit HWRCs until 6pm every Wednesday from April 7th to August 4th.
The HWRC at Tintagel, which does not open on Wednesday, is the only exception and will instead be open until 6pm on Mondays.
The sites will continue to be open from 9am and close at the usual time of 4pm on all other days.
The number plate entry system remains in place to limit the number of people visiting HWRCs and ensure the sites remain covid-secure.
If the last digit of your vehicle number plate iseven - 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 - then you should only visit a HWRC on an evendate of the month,e.g. 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th.
If the last digit of your number plate isodd- 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9- then you should only visit an HWRC on an odddate of the month,e.g. 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th.
If there are queues and you try to enter the site on the wrong day, site staff may turn you away and ask you to return on the correct date.
Cornwall Council is urging residents to sort their rubbish before they visit their local HWRC and recycle as much as possible.
HWRCs accept a range of materials including metal, cardboard, wood, electrical items and old batteries.
Rather than put items in black bags, have your items sorted before you arrive. To check what you can and can't recycle, search Cornwall Council's online A-Z.
The extended opening times trial was a recommendation of the Council's HWRC Inquiry which concluded in 2020.
See full details about the trial and what items you can recycle on the Household Waste and Recycling Centre page.
