A car fire near Helston has been causing heavy traffic this afternoon, partially blocking Crelly, and the B3297, through Wendron.

The incident was reported just after 1pm, affecting traffic between Redruth and Helston, between the Porkellis turn-off and the Poldark Mine turn-off.

One eyewitness on the scene added:

"Car fire on Helston to Redruth Road, would avoid if possible. I came through about 20 minutes ago and no emergency services at that point and cars couldn't get past."

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service added:

"On arrival crews discovered a van fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire."
