A main Helston street is set to be closed to protect public health and safety, it was announced this afternoon.

Meneage Street will be closed to traffic from Monday 22nd June for 21 days.

Cllr Ron Edgcumbe revealed the news on social media saying:

"Cornwall Council will be closing Meneage St to traffic between 10am and 4pm from Monday 22nd.

"Helston Town Council has never discussed pedestrianisation during the last four years.

"Any plans for pedestrianisation would only come after a considerable consultation period followers by a 12 month notice period to allow for traders to relocate.

"The closure period will be for three weeks initially and will be funded by Cornwall Council via a grant from central government."

Cllr Miles Kenchington also added that Helston Town Council will be funding the cost of two hours parking in the Trengrouse Way car park for the three weeks.

More details are due to announced soon.
