Important advice for shoppers at Helston Sainsbury's as the supermarket urges people to continue wearing face masks despite the lifting of covid restrictions.

From this week people in England will no longer be legally required to wear masks in supermarkets. The government has still recommended that people continue to wear masks in crowded settings - but this is now a matter of personal choice.

The requirement to wear masks has been removed today (Thursday 27th January), Sainsbury's, with their supermarket in Clodgey Lane, has still asked all customers and staff to keep wearing masks anyway - although this will not be mandatory to shop there.

A spokesperson for the supermarket said:

"Safety remains our highest priority. From Thursday, we're asking our customers and colleagues in England to continue to wear a face-covering in our stores if they are able to.

"In Scotland and Wales face coverings remain mandatory for those who can wear them in our stores, in line with the latest Government restrictions.

"We continue to have a range of safety measures in all of our stores, including screens and sanitising stations."

Most other supermarkets including Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, and Tesco, have not specifically outlined their own recommendations when it comes to masks, so it seems likely that they will follow the government guidance and leave it up to the personal choice of shoppers.

The last time the requirement to wear masks was removed, in July 2021, supermarkets such as Aldi and Asda continued to encourage customers to wear masks but left it up to their personal choice.
