17th Nov 2020 | Local News

In this weeks rewind feature residents get the chance to see the 1999 solar eclipse at Lizard Point once again.

In a video put together by Ed Richardson or "broadbend", it brings back memories for residents of August 11th 1999.

Shot on a Canon Hi8, describing the video Ed writes:

"Apart from cutting out a few scrambled attempts to focus in on the action, this is mostly real-time footage. You can see darkness fall quite quickly when the sun slipped away on the beach. Finishing off with a break in the clouds just at the critical moment."

Residents poured in recalling their memories of that day, one wrote:

"Thanks so much for putting this on, I was there with my boyfriend (now husband!) and my brother, brought back so many awesome memories."

A second wrote:

"Me and several friends spent the whole week down there. We were sat up on the cliffs at start of the video."

A third wrote:

"We made a road trip of it driving through the night from Yorkshire to Cornwall. Also brings back great memories for us too."
