Helston based optometrist, Adam Matthews, has won a prestigious national award.

Adam Matthews has been announced as the winner in the category of Newly-qualified Optometrist of the Year in the AOP Awards 2020, which is organised by the Association of Optometrists (AOP).

Currently working as the lead optometrist and Director of his own independent opticians Matthews Opticians & Hearing care, he said:

"Working within an industry alongside many other high achieving professionals, it can be challenging to stand out. That's why winning, or even being nominated for this award, is so special.

"This award is a validation of the tireless work that has gone into the early years of my career. It feels incredible to have my efforts recognised by people outside of my day to day environment, especially those who are experts within their fields.

"My team will share this achievement, and my patients and customers can enjoy and celebrate with us. Professionally, it means I will be able to connect with more people, to create a positive change within the local and wider community."

The Awards, now in its ninth year, recognises the highest levels of achievement in UK optics. The Newly-qualified Optometrist of the Year winner is an optometrist who has been qualified for up to three years who has launched themselves into the early years of their career with enthusiasm and professionalism.

AOP Chief Executive, Henrietta Alderman commented:

"The AOP Awards shines a spotlight on the extraordinary individuals and teams who are propelling the profession forward with their knowledge, expertise, dedication and passion. This year is no different – with all the winners, and indeed finalists, giving an impressive account for optometry, I wish them every success in the future."

The winners of the AOP Awards 2020 were announced on 26 January at a national awards ceremony in London.
