A Helston funeral directors have asked local residents to pay tribute to those who have passed away - but whose death can't be mourned properly because of coronavirus.
R.E Tonkin & Son, based in Mullion have served Helston and The Lizard Peninsula for forty years, says it will mean a lot to bereaved families to know they are not alone at a time of loss when access to funerals is limited.
Mark Tonkin, owner of R.E Tonkin & Son, told Nub News:
"It's a great tradition that many people in Cornwall still do observe.
"Given the current situation is providing many people with time away from their busy lives at work, college or school it would be lovely to see more people take a short moment to pause and pay their respects."
The firm wrote on social media:
"If you see a hearse, could you stop, stand for a moment as it passes, perhaps take off your cap, and bow your head?
"In these times where funerals are limited to only a very few close family our chance to support people during a bereavement is limited.
"So, we wondered if we could revive an old tradition that would show people that their loss is noticed and shared by us all?
"It would mean the world to families in a time of sadness.
"This is a lovely idea which has been going around the funeral profession and we'd like to share it with everyone in our area and ask for some help for families suffering a bereavement at this very difficult time."
