You may remember the Nub News piece about Helston Footprints on the 1st January 2021, the initiative to launch reducing towns carbon footprint.

You can read that article here.

Helston Footprints is a community project to support people living and working in and around Helston to work together to reduce carbon emissions.

This is done by using an app called GIKI Zero Giki - making it easy to live sustainably or the Carbon Buddy Manual workbook Carbon Buddy Project to calculate your carbon footprint, then following

suggested steps to make reductions.

Some steps are easy, like turning off lights when you are not using them, some are harder like reducing your meat and dairy consumption, or having the goal to "Cut a Tonne in 21".

GIKI guides you, giving information and ideas, you choose what you can do.

A spokesperson for Helston Footprints told Nub News:

"Thank you to everyone who has got in touch to join in with this important work, including Helston Town Mayor, John Martin. We have started our journey and are already seeing savings.

"So far, the Helston Footprints team has saved almost 2 tonnes of carbon emissions and reduced water use by over 1500 litres. We have even made a small reduction in demand for land by making

different choices about what we eat or the clothes we buy – in theory, this means the land could be made available for nature.

"We are delighted to be able to report reductions in emissions and reduced demand for resources already, and hope to see more in the weeks to come.

"At the moment, we have funding for people to join the project until mid-March so we are still recruiting."
