Four new deaths relating to Coronavirus in Devon and Cornwall have been registered, latest ONS figures reveal.
The figures from the ONS, relate to the week of September 12th and September 18th, but were registered up to September 26th, and show that three of the 318 deaths that occurred in the two counties saw COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
A fourth death – which occurred in Mid Devon in someone's private home in the week of July 11th to 17th – has also been registered this week.
The three new deaths that occurred in the week of September 12th and September 18th were all in care homes in Plymouth.
It is the fifth week in a row were no new deaths were recorded in Cornwall, is the 14th week in a row across Devon and Cornwall combined that the number of deaths has been in single figures.
After nine consecutive weeks, the run of deaths recorded being either zero, one, or two has ended.
Previous weeks have seen 0, 2, 0, 1, 2, 1, 0, 1, 2, 2, 5, 1, 7, 10, 11, 15, 38, 44, 69, 84, 107, 89, 60, 16, and nine deaths registered.
The Isles of Scilly has still yet to see a COVID-19 related death and the South Hams and North Devon have gone 17 weeks, Torridge 16 weeks, Torbay 15 weeks, Exeter and Teignbridge 14 weeks, Cornwall and East Devon five weeks, and West Devon two weeks without a death being recorded. Mid Devon has gone eight weeks since a death occurred, although it was only registered this week.
In total, 581 deaths from coronavirus have been registered across Devon and Cornwall, with 306 in hospitals, 229 in care homes, 45 at home, and one in a hospice.
Of the deaths, 210 have been registered in Cornwall, 95 in Plymouth, 58 in Torbay, 50 in East Devon, 39 in Exeter, 33 in Teignbridge, 26 in North Devon, 20 in Torridge, 19 in Mid Devon, 19 in West Devon, 12 in the South Hams, and none in the Isles of Scilly.
The figures show in which local authority the deceased's usual place of residence was. For instance, if someone may have died in Derriford Hospital but lived in West Devon, while the death may have been registered in Plymouth, their death would be recorded in the mortality statistics for the ONS figures against West Devon.
