In an announcement yesterday, the organisers of the Helston Carnival and Harvest Fair have decided to cancel this year's carnival.

The fair was due to go-ahead on Saturday 12th September, but the committee has said the decision to cancel is to protect the health and safety of those participating.

A spokesperson for the Helston Carnival and Harvest Fair said:

"It is with great sadness that the Helston Carnival and Harvest Fair committee has announced the cancellation of this years carnival, horticulture & craft show and all associated events.

"Our priority is to protect the health and safety of everyone participating in all these events, and those supporting them.

"Although we are all very disappointed, this is the safest decision.

"We wish everybody the very best during these difficult times, safe stay and thank you for your support."
