Yesterday morning (5th) it was announced that UK airline Flybe had gone into administration.

The Bridal Studio, based on Coinagehall Street in Helston was due to travel with the company but has been left without a refund following the collapse.

A spokesperson from The Bridal Studio told Nub News:

"We were due to go to London Bridal Fashion Week for one of the largest buying events in the Bridal Industry, this means it could potentially delay our new collection of wedding dresses.

"Ironically I only spoke with Flybe yesterday to enquire about changing one of our tickets and they would have happily taken more money as an admin fee if I had been able to confirm it with them. We will lose the cost of our flights as well as our hotel costs.

"I feel optimistic and confident that another airline will pick up the route at some point before the season properly kicks in. Cornwall is a beautiful part of the country, we survived before we had that flight path and I'm sure we will with whatever happens next.

"The train companies have been offering free trips to those affected by the Flybe issue but sadly only for the next few days, however, it's a great gesture."

In a statement yesterday, the Cornwall Chamber Of Commerce sought to reassure businesses that the future remains bright:

"Despite Flybe's collapse in the early hours of this morning being a huge blow to the Cornish business community and beyond, we remain positive for the future. The Cornish community should feel reassured that a public service obligation (PSO) is in place until 2022 which permits a subsidised route from Cornwall to London.

"Talks are underway between the government and Cornwall Airport Newquay bosses to discuss a way forward to ensure that Cornwall remains connected to the rest of the UK and beyond.

"The route between Newquay and London is profitable with business users and the tourism industry and therefore we hope to see another airline step into this route quickly – we look forward to hearing the outcome of these talks but in the meantime, our thoughts are with all of those affected by the downfall of Flybe."
