This month Helston based authors Jamie Arron and Terry Lander released a children's book - Lewis and Bruno Face the Artificial Intelligents, and the first book for Jamie, 31.

Quite an achievement writing your own book, they spent months in the creative process writing up draft after draft.

The book was put together during lockdown and was made available to purchase during the second lockdown in November.

Nub News caught up with Jamie about the book, his ambitions to be an author and what it takes to write a book.

Writing your own book is quite a big thing, what started it all off?

"It is a very big thing and something that I have dreamt of doing for many years, my journey with writing began when I was very young and I bought my first Goosebumps book in the 90's - it opened my eyes and transformed my life a bit because that is what I started to get a piece of paper and write my own stories.

"When I grew up a little bit my attention diverted more towards software development and maths, so I put it to one side.

"About five years ago the itch started to come back mainly because I didn't feel like I was reading enough so I tended to listen to audiobooks - audiobooks gave me a chance to read on top of everything.

"It wasn't really until I met Terry that I had the confidence to finally get pen on paper so I owe a lot of what I do now to him."

What does it take to write a book?

"For me, the biggest challenge was actually finishing it, I can't count how many unfinished drafts I have that comprise maybe two chapters at the most, it was the doubt, being a perfectionist, just worrying that this isn't good enough.

"Start, don't stop, don't think of the consequences, don't think of how bad it might sound just finish it."

What is the next step for you Jamie?

"I already had an idea for a sequel before we even finished it, Lewis and Bruno takes a lot of inspiration from The Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers, I am a massive sci-fi nut, influences include The Incredible Hulk, Doctor Who.

"The Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers is where it came from, and I was thinking about how we could apply that to a children's story, making it scary but not so much that it puts people off.

"We have both agreed now that this is done we are going to focus all of our attention our projects, I have my own project which I have managed to finish because of that new get it done attitude.

"Terry has his own series of books called the Natalie series, he has a third one in that trilogy that he is going to finish and then we will come back to write again.

"If there is anything I can give back to people it is that you just need to get it done and it was Terry that helped me to realise that."

The book is available to order from your local bookshop or online at Waterstones and Amazon.
