Green light given for Shoals Brewery - Porthleven's new microbrewery with outdoor seating

By Joseph Macey 17th Jun 2021

Conditional permission has been given this week for the exciting project to convert a vehicle repair shop into a new microbrewery.

The development will see the change of use of part of the building to seating and a bar serving area associated with the Mussel Shoal Brewery, which will occupy the rear part of the building.

An outdoor seating area is also proposed at the front of the building.

No other external changes to the building are proposed, apart from Brewery signage and the external seating area and its means of enclosure.

The application was submitted by the owner of The Mussell Shoal (Kelvin Batt), who has now been given the go-ahead for Shoals Brewery at Harbour Head.

Porthleven Town Council voiced their support for the application back in May, if the appropriate licenses were approved.

In a concluding statement, the planning officer wrote:

"On balance it is considered that the proposal is acceptable, subject to conditions. All other matters raised have been taken into account, including the planning history and the comments of the Parish Council, but none is of such significance as to outweigh the considerations that have led to the conclusion."

Sharing an update on social media on the conversion, Dai (the head brewer) met Mark, the farmer who will be growing the breweries hops in Kent, Kelvin added:

"We've got a bit of a job on with our fit out as you can see, but getting these two together is a start for the breweries journey."
