Approval has been given to bring the unused former Mullion Nursery building back into use by converting it into flats.

Submitted by Oliver & Charkham of Kiteley Homes Ltd – the application outlines plans for four flats to revive the building on Nansmellyon Road and give it a long-term sustainable future.

The application received support from Mullion Parish Council, and Cornwall Council granted conditional approval this week (15th).

As reported in April, the applicant said they hope to make the flats a positive addition to the local community.

A report from Cornwall Council's planning officer said the development is a sustainable location making use of previously developed land, it will provide acceptable living conditions for future and existing residents, and it will respond to the housing crisis by providing additional housing.

The building on Nansmellyon Road has been used for a variety of uses, including a youth club prior to the YMCA taking it over. It was last used as a nursery and coffee shop.

Cornwall Council's planning officer added: "Taking these factors into account, on balance it is considered that the proposal is acceptable, subject to conditions. All other matters raised have been taken into account, including the planning history and the comments of the Parish Council, but none is of such significance as to outweigh the considerations that have led to the conclusion."
