Helston's very own meadery is set to open for business this week after much excitement around the town to see the new restaurant.

The Helston Meadery, which was most recently The Reel Pizza Company on Wendron Street has now been transformed, as shown in exclusive first look pictures.

Under the same ownership, Tony Gatta has moved away from corporate eateries, creating a unique eatery, with the only other Cornish meaderies in Newlyn and Redruth.

Tony has run successful restaurants in St Ives, Newlyn, and Hayle, making up 25 years of experience in the restaurant business.

After some inspiration from "the god" of meaderies Sid Leighworthy , who got in contact with him after hearing about his idea, sharing his ethos of "sticking to the basics".

It will be, "great value in a good place," Tony Gatta told Nub News.

He continued:

"The food is really simple but excellent quality, it will be chicken and chips, with other things on the menu as well. It is all mainly be hand food, we will be doing batter prawns, battered fish and goujons, with some vegetarian options.

"The main thing with the drink is the mead, the only real mead is made by the Newlyn Mead Company, we will be stocking their products."

The restaurant is designed for bigger groups and families with tables/booths available of up to 20.

On the theme of the restaurant, he added:

"A boat, there will be hammocks, barrels, dark atmosphere, rope, ships wheel, and everyone will be dressed in pirate outfits.

"I'm hoping people will get very good value and food in a really enjoyable environment, I see it as a modern twist on an old-fashioned meadery."

Those behind the meadery are hoping to open on Saturday 22nd, call 07572507859 to make a booking.

More details are to follow on the opening.
