A devastating fire swept through a property in Ruan Minor overnight taking everything from a local family.

A call was made at around 11:30pm (Saturday 18th) with firefighters from Mullion and Helston mobilised to the incident. Later joined by St Keverne, Falmouth, and Tolvaddon.

Firefighters on scene confirmed one detached, three-storey domestic property (10M by 10M) alight. Four breathing apparatus and three main jets were used to tackle the blaze.

Following the incident, a fundraiser was set up on behalf of the family of seven which has raised nearly £4,500 in 10 hours.

The fundraiser describes how the lone mother got the six children out to safety - but watched on as the home was ravaged by the fire.

The fundraising appeal by Sparkle Foundation founder Leigh Yates, read:

"They are completely traumatised. They are going to need a great deal of support to rebuild their lives. We are appealing for financial support for them. Thankfully they are all safe and survived but they have no home and the fire destroyed everything.

"I don't know how they will come to terms with this but I know we can help. The Sparkle Foundation and The Sparkle Academy UK will help them with your support."
