MP Derek Thomas has hailed the news that more than 40% of people in his West Cornwall constituency have already received a Covid vaccine as 'an amazing achievement'.

"As of 25th February, 40.6% of people in the St Ives constituency had received their first dose of vaccine – making the fifth speediest roll-out area in the country," he said.

"This is an amazing achievement and my appreciation goes to all the doctors, healthcare staff and volunteers who have made this happen - it's also a great vote of confidence from people that they trust in the effectiveness of the vaccine."

Across all Cornwall, more than 190,000 people have received a coronavirus vaccine so far – 33.9% of the county's population.

Mr Thomas added:

"A fast and comprehensive vaccine roll-out is a critical part in enabling us to lift the restrictions and restraints that we have imposed upon people.

"Given the success of the roll-out so far, I will continue to press for flexibility so that we do not have to pause the roll-out to enable the rest of the country to catch up."
