Delayed gas works in Helston to start on Monday for six weeks

Essential gas works in the Falmouth Road area of Helston has been delayed and will now start on the Monday (2nd December).

Gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities, was originally due to start work in November but has agreed with Cornwall Council that the work will start on 2 December and will take six weeks to complete.

Work for the Christmas period will finish on the 20 December, restarting on the 7 January 2020.

The £132,000 work, which is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area involves two and three-way traffic lights in place on various roads in the Falmouth Road area.

Traffic lights will be in operation from 2 December – 10 January and will be situated on Falmouth Road, Gwealdues, Redruth Road, Godolphin Road, Cadnes Parc and Tenderah Road.

The traffic management plan, which has been agreed with Cornwall Council, is in place to keep the local community, road users and Wales & West Utilities colleagues safe.

Wales & West Utilities has been in communication with local businesses to alert them of the essential work and all businesses will be open, as usual.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller, Roxanne Whittaker, is managing the work and said:

"We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

"While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Helston. Whether it's heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

"We will have a team of gas engineers on-site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum."
