Dragos and Mirabela Robatzchi are a Romanian couple who run a taxi service in Helston, Cornwall. Among their customers are local children with disabilities, who they help to get to school.
In the run-up to Brexit on 31st January, their business was targeted several times by vandals, who slashed their tyres and left dog poo in their parking space.
Now, a crowdfunder has been set up to support Dragos and Mirabela, and any other people who are facing similar intimidation in Cornwall, whether they are EU citizens or from other countries.
The funds raised will be used initially to cover the cost of the damage caused to Dragos and Mirabela, and anything extra will go towards helping other people in Cornwall in a similar situation.
Charles Boney, from Cornwall for Europe, told Nub News:
"We are appalled at the way some European citizens are being treated post-Brexit by a very small minority of people.
"Sadly some Brexit supporting people do not seem to have the values that we cherish.
"We believe that European culture is better than this."
The fund has quickly built up strong support with £740 raised.
A lot of supporters have commented on the crowdfunder saying:
"I cannot believe this kind of behaviour is happening in Cornwall. I'm so pleased to hear this family are getting so much support."
"Just to let you know you have friends who will be here for you."
"I am ashamed to be British when I read of the hateful and criminal things that are being done to you and others."
