Community cheers on Culdrose sailors as Freedom of Helston Parade returns
Residents lined the streets to watch over 100 sailors march through the streets of Helston to celebrate the Freedom of Helston Parade and RNAS Culdrose's 75th anniversary.
This morning (6th April), sailors from Culdrose paraded along Meneage Street and Coinagehall Street, alongside a field gun team, a fire engine, and a flyover from a helicopter.
The annual parade is more significant this year because of the station's anniversary.
RNAS Culdrose was first granted the Freedom of the Borough of Helston in 1958. It is the highest privilege a town can give to a military establishment.
After the parade, Helston Town Clerk Pamela Lavelle told Nub News:
"I think it was an excellent parade. It was wonderful to see so many people, we are so proud to have Culdrose as part of our community. It is such a privilege to have the event take place.
"With all the restrictions that have been in place it is sad we haven't been able to hold it. The fact it is for the 75th anniversary as well makes it even better. It is great to have it back with style."
