Yesterday evening (24th) Mullion Coastguard were alerted by a member of the public to reports of a mass gathering swimming at Loe Bar.

The coastguard identified two groups of people, approximately 25 people in one group and 5 in another.

A spokesperson for Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team said:

"Whilst conducting a 'high readiness patrol' this evening our Coastguards were approached by a member of the public who passed on concerns regarding a mass gathering with people drinking alcohol and swimming on the Chyvarloe side of Loe Bar.

"The crew gave safety advice about the treacherous sea conditions and the extreme dangers of swimming off the bar."

The advice comes after the coastguard issued a warning just last week over the dangers of swimming at Loe Bar Beach.

The spokesperson added:

"The people were not entirely aware of the unique dangers of the area, and received the safety advice with thanks.

"Thank you to the member of public for passing the information on to our patrol team.

"The HM Coastguard Operations team passed observations regarding the gatherings onto D&C Police.

"If you see anyone in danger by the coast call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
