Christmas lights WILL be going up in Helston this year

By Joseph Macey 27th Nov 2020

In an exciting announcement, the Helston Christmas Lights team revealed this afternoon that the town will be getting lights after all.

This follows months of speculation as to whether Helston would be getting a Christmas lights display at all.

The previous update was that the Christmas lights would not be going up but after the news that Helston would be falling into the Tier One category, the lights will be put up when lockdown is over.

Rob Williams and the Christmas Lights Crew wrote today:

"We've been following Government guidelines very closely over the last month and have held back from breaking any Covid rules regarding gatherings of different households during lockdown, as we aren't contractors who are paid to put lights up.

"Now that we are going to Tier 1 next week we will start erecting lights soon after the lockdown ends. Our display this year will be very much scaled down from what we normally put up but I'm sure that everyone will welcome seeing some colour in our streets.

"We will concentrate on putting up the coloured bulbs that zig-zag down through the streets. Any other displays that we can get up will be a bonus.

"We must all be very aware that the virus is still around, it's not going away for a festive break in December. We must still maintain social distancing.

"Please give us space to do what we need to do then everyone can stay safe."
