Car park charges to be reintroduced in Helston but will remain free for frontline workers

Local News by Joseph Macey 22nd May 2020

Cornwall Council is set to reintroduce car park charges in Helston and beyond on June 1st.

However, car parks will remain free for frontline workers as the council continues to show its support.

The news was announced in today's council briefing with Jayne Kirkham, Cornwall Councillor for Falmouth Smithick saying:

"On 27th March the Council agreed to suspend pay and display parking charges until the end of the lockdown period to support key workers.

"Like many local authorities, we will be reintroducing charges on Monday, June 1st, as lockdown measures continue to ease, but tariffs will remain at 2019 levels and not increase with inflation this year as originally planned.

"However, we feel it's important that we continue to support our key workers, and so car parks will remain free for NHS staff, health and social care staff, and critical care volunteers.

"If you fall into that category and you're parking in a Council car park, you'll need to display the permit provided by your NHS Trust or use the intercom when you're leaving a pay-on-exit car park."
