Local fire teams were out in Zoar, St Keverne, well into the early hours tackling a large gorse fire.

The fire had spread over 4 hectares of gorse land with teams assisting from St Keverne, Mullion, Helston, St Ives, Penzance, Falmouth, Hayle, and Tolvaddon.

The teams from St Keverne, Mullion and Helston were using hose reels and beaters to try to fight the fire until around 11:30pm when the Incident Commander requested further assistance from Falmouth and Penzance major appliances.

St Ives and Falmouth were still on the scene at 3am monitoring for hot spots after all other appliances left the scene, it is believed around a mile of gorse had been affected by the blaze.

All teams left the scene at 6:30am.
