'We are strong and we will get through this': In conversation with Whealdream on lockdown and getting back to takeaways

By Joseph Macey 15th Nov 2020

Helston restaurant Whealdream is getting back out on the takeaway scene once again following the introduction of a second lockdown.

When the second lockdown hit the Whealdream team was well prepared to get back to serving takeaways following the success during the previous lockdown.

Speaking to Nub News, Barry Clark and Naomi Clark, Directors of Whealdream Restaurant praised the ongoing local support that is helping to keep the restaurant alive during this difficult time.

Barry said:

"We have invested so much into Whealdream over the past year and it's been hard at times trying to juggle family life and coronavirus. Like I have said we have a great team behind us and together we will bounce back.

"We are very well known for serving one of Cornwall's best carvery using local produce and with a lot of planning, we have been able to adapt into a takeout which has given us amazing feedback and put smiles on many faces.

"This has given us a big buzz knowing our locals keep coming back most weekends."

On Friday, Whealdream kicked off with a more casual menu from 4:30pm-8pm offering burgers, pizzas and grilled flatbreads.

See the menu here.

On Sundays, Whealdream are making takeaway roasts, available 12pm-6pm, place an order by calling 01326 653333.

Switching his attention to lockdown, Barry isn't the only one feeling the impact as his brothers Neil and Jim run businesses in the town, he added:

"My brother Neil who owns and invested so much into the Whealdream lodges and holiday accommodation has also been forced to close which is gutting after a good and successful summer.

"We have put so much in place to protect our customers and staff it's a shame we have ended up with another lockdown.

"Our older brother Jim has also taken a bit hit with his taxi company Cabs4U in Helston which relies on pub and restaurant trade to keep their wheels turning.

"This has been a very nervous time but we are strong and we will get through this."
