'Devastated': Porthleven Food Festival organisers announce cancellation for second year running

Porthleven Food Festival have said they are "devastated" to announce the cancellation of the event.

The news was released today with the organisers not taking any risks with an uncertain roadmap, assuming everything will be back to normal.

The award-winning, free festival, which had already been moved from its usual April slot to the weekend of 2nd-4th July 2021, owing to COVID-19, usually brings thousand of foodies to the harbourside in Porthleven, but for the second year running will not go ahead.

"We can't quite believe we're having to do this again but planning an event given the number of unknowns is virtually impossible," Food Festival Chairman Alec Short said.

Mr Short also stated that it would be "irresponsible" to encourage large numbers to come to Porthleven when there are elderly and vulnerable people in the community.

Alec Short added:

"We could easily be in a situation where the dates proposed by the government get pushed back and that would be catastrophic for us.

"The team have looked at a number of options for a slimmed-down event, but nothing really stacks up in terms of the quality of event we want to deliver and so we have taken the difficult decision to cancel this year.

"We know this decision will be very disappointing for some, as it is for us having to make it, but we hope everyone will understand. We send our heartfelt apologies in particular to the traders and bands who were due to be at the Festival as we know they have been unable to trade and perform for so long now."
