A popular Helston pub has announced that it will sadly be closing its doors for good.

The Prince of Wales, situated in Newtown St Martin, has today said that after half a decade of trying they haven't been able to secure any buyers.

The Prince of Wales released a statement:

"As many of you know, after 5 years of actively trying to sell the Prince of Wales as a pub, without any offers on it, we have now, extremely reluctantly, had to take the decision to close permanently.

"The pub has not been able to support itself financially for a number of years and we cannot personally support its financial losses any longer.

"Tom and I would like to thank our customers for all their support over the years and our staff for their hard work and loyalty. We wish you all the very best for the future."

Residents have been mourning the announcement.

One resident said: "We are devastated for you. One of the highlights of visiting Cornwall is to visit you guys. We wish you all the best and hope the pub can reopen at some point in the future.

Another resident said: "So sad to hear. Thank you for your custom over the years."
