This year was supposed to be the 20th anniversary of the Helstonbury Festival, but an announcement was made this morning informing fans that it has been cancelled.
Helstonbury Festival is held in the Blue Anchor every year, raising money for local charities.
Due to fears over Coronavirus, this year's festival has been moved until July 15th-18th 2021.
In a statement on social media, festival organiser Paul Turton said:
"As you all know Helstonbury takes place late July, and when the Coronavirus pandemic started in early March, we were hoping like everyone else that it would have run its course and we would now see signs of normality returning over the next few months.
"Unfortunately, that is not the case, and with no clear and precise timeline to when this will happen, we have sadly but understandably postponed this year's festival until next July. Our delay in postponing was governed by "hope" thinking that if the all-clear came July then everyone would be wanting a big party as such, however, the current harsh reality is all around us suggesting otherwise."
This year was going to be the "big 20" the 20th Helstonbury, with a huge line up to suit the occasion, Paul said this is a "big disappointment" for everyone involved that they have had to cancel.
Paul also paid tribute to The Blue Anchor, saying:
"Please take a moment for its spiritual home The Blue Anchor, who like all public houses are currently facing hard and challenging times. None of us can imagine a world without Spingo and all the magic it brings, so let's all hope Kim, Simon, Ben, Jake and all the staff are all well and keeping safe and we look forward to seeing them again when all this is over.
"Please be reassured that the Helstonbury flag is still waving strong and will continue to support the local community whenever possible, the party may be delayed but the spirit will never falter."
Paul Turton added:
"Safety is paramount and we respect that, sit tight and all being well we will be back to normal as soon as possible."
