A suspected arson is the reason planned burnings went out of control, it has been revealed this evening.
David Oates planned 6 burnings in the area between Ruan Minor and The Lizard this afternoon.
Unfortunately, whilst David was burning someone else decided to walk across a field and is thought to have thrown a match over the hedge a mile down the road.
Revealing further details this evening, David added:
"This arson was the reason the fire spread close to the road, multiple fire engines and the police had to be called to control traffic.
"Luckily because we were well equipped we could extinguish our fire and put out the arson before it did too much damage."
There was heavy traffic on the route heading towards The Lizard this afternoon on the A3083 with police and the fire service being called out with smoke blowing across the road.
"I can't comprehend why anyone would burn land that is clearly now being managed with new fencing installed and the wind blowing towards the road," David continued.
He added:
"It's a big waste of resources and spreads a negative image to burning heathland which is essential."
