Residents of Cadgwith, Ruan Minor have expressed their concerns over a proposal for a wine bar in the village.
The application proposes a change of use from a dwelling to a wine bar at The Square, Cadgwith.
It was submitted by Mr M. Sillifant.
The application reads:
"The proposed facility will provide tapas-like food and beverages including alcohol. Overspill from the pub will be able to utilise the new venue which will also cater for those visitors wishing to
experience an alternative to the pub together with a pleasant outside garden area. "It will be advertised as 'no parking' both at or near the access and on any website information. "The site which obtained planning approval for a dwelling as approved under PA15/04440, to which is nearing completion, shares an access drive which in turn is accessed off the main through road just in front of the harbour area. "The appearance of the dwelling in materials wise would not be altered, so the only change is the use, this is to ensure that minimal effect is contributed to the listed buildings which are located in the near vicinity of the site." However, residents living in the area have voiced concerns about the plans, one resident wrote: "We are objecting to this commercial development in an entirely residential area which will cause an unacceptable rise in noise and light pollution which will substantially subtract from the level of our residential amenity which we currently enjoy. "As others have pointed out, there are three other licensed premises in the village already so we do not think there is any demonstrable requirement for this development in a manifestly unsuitable location." A second resident wrote: "I am the owner of Wellfield House in Cadgwith and my property overlooks the Square where PA20/03061 for a wine bar is proposed. I wish to strongly object to such a proposal in this location. "Such a business would undoubtedly generate considerable noise pollution and cause a negative disturbance, any noise in The Square is greatly magnified and so a wine bar would be very unwelcome and cause problems for the surrounding properties." A third wrote: "Dear sir I feel I must write and object to the proposed wine bar Cadgwith. Cadgwith lies within an area of outstanding natural beauty it is one of Cornwall's not spoilt fishing's villages. "The area is served by three premises that serve alcohol already and a wine bar is not needed in the area. This would be in a residential area and would affect people living with noise and light pollution and possibly smells from food."
