Helston Christmas Lights will be put up this year on a scaled-down basis, it was announced yesterday.

Rob Williams and the Christmas lights team won't be putting up the full spread of lights but there is a plan to put up what they can whilst maintaining social distancing.

Rob Williams said:

"Helston's streets will still be nice and colourful to end this gloomy, dark year. The festoon strings will zig-zag down through town and the Monument outline frame will be the focal point at the bottom of town with the main 25ft high Christmas tree erected alongside.

"Most of our wall-mounted displays will be put up but the large displays that span the width of the streets are going to stay in storage for this year and we'll hopefully be in a financial position to buy brand new displays for next year."

Unfortunately, there will be no Santa's Grotto or firework display this year.

The lights will be switched on at an unannounced time.

Rob continued:

"We've now got a few weeks preparation to get the lights ready to put up and, as long as COVID restrictions don't prevent us doing so, we'll start putting them up on 8th November.

"Further updates will follow, but, for now, I hope you stay safe and well during these uncertain times."
