In what is becoming an annual tradition, West Cornwall MP Derek Thomas is once again hosting a series of 'Big Thank You' events to celebrate the work of volunteers in the community.

Derek Thomas will hold three events – in Helston, Penzance and St Ives - over the next few weeks to which voluntary organisations and the volunteers who work for them are invited to chat about their work and experiences over a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake.

Mr Thomas said:

"There is no doubt that communities in West Cornwall would be considerably worse off without the selfless work of our army of volunteers who do so much to keep a wide range of clubs and vital community services alive."

"I think it is important that their dedication and commitment is acknowledged and it is always a great pleasure to meet the volunteers and hear first hand exactly what they do and the sacrifices they make to help West Cornwall such a special place.

"A new aspect of the Big Thank You events this year is that we are inviting voluntary groups to host a stand explaining how people can volunteer and these events are open to all existing volunteers and anyone planning to get involved."

The events take place:

Saturday, 25th January: Helston Bowling Club from 10am.

Saturday, 1st February: Hope Church, Penzance from 10am.

Saturday, 8th February: Salvation Army, St Ives from 10am.
