Residents in Helston and Cornwall wide are being told to be wary of a new scam that has been reported.

People have been receiving automated calls from "HMRC", but this is, in fact, a scam.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging people to warn vulnerable relatives and neighbours about the calls.

The police said:

"We would like to make you aware that we have received information about a certain type of scam.

"Residents have received automated phone calls stating it is from HMRC about non-payment / prosecution or similar, an instruction is then given to press a number - please do not follow instructions – this is a scam.

"If you have any concerns please phone 101 or email [email protected], if you have fallen victim to a scam, please report this to Action Fraud."
