Helston Railway has taken the decision to close to the public for the remainder of the year.

Announced today, the railway stated staff safety for the closure.

In an announcement Helston Railway said:

"We will be staying closed to the public for the remainder of this year. Not a decision taken lightly - that's one difficulty of running a volunteer organisation when so many of our customer-facing people are of mature years.

"However we are still working, with the appropriate Covid-19 safeguards in place, to make sure we keep our infrastructure and rolling stock in good condition for next year.

"If you are interested in volunteering to help us keep things ticking over please get in touch."

Last week, a fundraising page was set up by Colin Savage to get together funds to purchase a new road railer, you can make a donation here.

The fundraising page reads:

"We urgently need to raise money to acquire a more up to date and reliable machine so that our volunteers, most of whom are the wrong side of 60 can carry on their hard-won efforts and continue to not only maintain the line at present but to push on and expand this blossoming community asset."
