Water from a swimming pool was used to put out a fire in Helston on Thursday evening (September 16).

The fire broke out in a workshop at Mainlay at around 6.55pm and was reported to the emergency services by several callers.

Fire crews from Helston, Mullion, St Keverne and Falmouth went to the scene, along with Western Power, as the fire was affecting overhead power cables. Police also attended for traffic management.

Four gas cylinders were removed from the site and cooled down to make them safe, and the fire was put out by firefighters using breathing apparatus, hosereel jets and a light portable pump working from a swimming pool.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally and is not being treated as suspicious.
