The Helston community has joined together to support a resident who is in need of aid at home.

The resident has severe health issues and requires a stairlift and a wetroom.

After knowing the person for many years Fishermen's Mission Manager Melinda King said she couldn't sit by and watch, she contacted Bradfords General Manager Peter Slinn who has put together a team in true 'DIY SOS' style.

Offering their assistance was Mark Wherry, Robert Hodge, Matt Williams, Barry Williams, Cable Ollerton, Philip Woodcock, Ben Farrington, and the Bradfords team. A thank you was issued for offering their time.

Melinda King told Nub News:

"It is a friend I have known for many years and she became quite ill, but she needs a wetroom which we have sorted and she needs a lift to get in and out of her house.

"We are trying to get some fundraising going, I have two men coming on Tuesday to her house to give us a quote.

"Helstonbury has said they will help, a few other organisations offering potential donations, I have a friend who is a businessman who is going to give me £1,000.

"Pete from Bradfords is releasing one of his guys at work for a week and he is going to do the room."

"Is it just about how much the lift will cost, if we get enough money we can do it."

Melinda wants as much money as possible to go towards the project so any donations will be collected in envelopes.

The cost of the lift is expected to be about £11,000.

Melinda added:

"I knew she needed a wetroom and I can't not help because she is so lovely, it is such an awful situation.

"We want to do this as a community DIY SOS but nobody can make a power lift, we have to pay for it. It is thousands but if we have help from those people we should be able to do it."

If you want to get involved or can offer a donation contact Melinda via [email protected].
