This afternoon, world leaders gathered ahead of the G7 summit, posing for the annual family photo.

Expected to come up are topics such as climate issues and vaccines.

Speaking before the talks, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:

"There are all sorts of reasons to be optimistic but it is vital we don't repeat the mistake of the last great crisis, the last great recession of 2008.

"Recovery was not uniform across all parts of society, what I think has gone wrong with this pandemic, what I think will be a lasting scar is that inequality will be entrenched. We need to make sure as we recover we level up across our society and we build back better.

"I think we have a huge opportunity to do that. As G7 we are united in our vision for a cleaner, greener world, a solution to the problems of climate change, and in those technologies in which we are all addressing together.

"I think there is potential to generate many high wage, high skilled jobs and I think that is what the people of our countries want us to focus on. They want us to be sure we are beating the pandemic together, building back together, building back fairer, building back greener and more equal, in a more gender-neutral and feminine way, how about that."

Boris Johnson then asked the media to exit and talks commenced.
